Strangely enough, Angelo Mathews, a cricketer from Sri Lanka, made cricket history when he became the first player to be “timed out” in an international match against Bangladesh. This remarkable incident happened in the game’s 25th over, after Samarawickrama, a batsman for Sri Lanka, was dismissed.

Ready to take his position, Mathews ran into an unexpected barrier in the shape of a troublesome helmet strap, which delayed him from getting to the crease in time and caused him to arrive after the allotted two minutes.

Shakib al-Hasan, the captain of Bangladesh, took advantage of Mathew’s resistance to be dismissed by claiming an ICC World Cup regulation that requires a replacement batsman to be prepared to face the bowler within two minutes after the previous dismissal. Because they had to follow the rules, the umpires upheld the appeal, therefore Mathews was out before he was even put through a delivery.

Mathews had the dubious distinction of becoming the first player to be “timed out” in the history of international cricket as a result of this odd dismissal, which launched him into cricketing legend. Even if the bowlers might not have claimed his wicket, Mathews’s outing is evidence of how important it is to follow the game’s regulations.

Glenn Maxwell obliterated Aiden Markram’s record for the fastest century in ODI World Cup history with a blistering 40-ball knock against the Netherlands in Delhi on Wednesday.

Despite entering the fray in the 40th over, Glenn Maxwell not only reached his century, but he also shattered the record by nine balls with a menacing display of power hitting.

Maxwell raced to his half-century in just 26 balls, then reached the century mark in a further 14 deliveries, peppering the boundary with nine fours and eight sixes along the way.

Maxwell revealed that he was feeling unwell when he walked out to bat after breaking the world record.

“I was exhausted all day, but I cleared my head and went out to play. When Davey and Greeny got out, I knew I had to dig deep,” Maxwell said.

Maxwell explained how he was able to play outrageous ramp shots even against bowlers who were digging the ball into the pitch: **

“I feel like I have enough time to go after those balls, even if they’re bouncing into the wicket. And when the bowlers are bowling quickly, my hands have to be quicker. I just try to generally get it over the infield.”

After a sedate start that saw Mitchell Marsh dismissed in the fourth over, Steve Smith joined David Warner at the crease and the pair forged a classy partnership before Smith was felled by a stunning catch from Van der Merwe.

Warner continued his sparkling form, smashing his second consecutive century of the tournament and sixth overall, proving that he remains one of the best white-ball batters in the world.

While wickets fell in clumps for the five-time champions in the middle overs, Maxwell’s blitzkrieg ensured that Australia posted a mammoth total of 399 on the board.

India defeated New Zealand by four wickets, thanks to the 95 runs scored by Virat Kohli and the 5-54 of Mohammed Shami, who made his World Cup 2023 debut. This victory put India at the top of the points standings. Even though Daryl Mitchell scored a career-high 130, the former table-toppers could only muster a total of 273, thanks to a late collapse sparked by Shami. India’s pursuit stayed consistent despite swings in momentum because of Rohit Sharma’s Powerplay and Virat Kohli’s outstanding effort.”

India’s victory was largely due to Rohit Sharma’s bold and aggressive style, as the skipper went on the attack right away. In his 40 balls, he slog-swept Mitchell Santner for four stunning sixes, bounded Trent Boult right down the ground, and fearlessly advanced down the pitch twice against Matt Henry. But Lockie Ferguson’s arrival signaled disaster on two fronts. With two wickets in his opening eight deliveries, the fast bowler quickly put an end to India’s promising start by knocking out both of their well-positioned openers. Unfortunately, Shubman Gill’s effort at an uppercut against a short delivery resulted in the ball going straight to the third man fielder, while Rohit’s inside edge made its way into his middle stump. Still, Shreyas Iyer proceeded to advance steadily, hitting a barrage of boundaries against the pacer and leading India beyond the 100-run threshold. A dense fog covered the ground shortly after, causing an 11-minute delay.”

“Murphy gave up more boundaries after the forced pause, with Kohli skillfully putting one through the covers and flicking another to the legside in the same over. However, Trent Boult took advantage of Iyer’s weakness to short-pitched deliveries shortly after the fifty-run partnership was reached, and India’s number four batsman was removed after hitting 33 runs.”

With some frugal overs from Rachin Ravindra all over his opening stint, New Zealand was able to mount a comeback. But Kohli took advantage of the situation and punished an infrequently overpitched ball with a well-placed six. After a cautious start to his innings, KL Rahul was picking up speed when New Zealand carried out a strategy review, which led to the dissolution of the partnership just after they crossed the fifty-run threshold. After being initially rejected by the on-field ruling, Santner chose to have Rahul reviewed for leg before wicket, and the Decision Review System’s three red flags verified New Zealand’s first wicket. After a mix-up with Kohli, Santner’s quick fielding in the very next over resulted in Suryakumar Yadav’s unlucky run-out.”

Despite this setback, Kohli persisted, teaming up with Jadeja when India required an additional 83 runs in the final 16 overs. The all-rounder started off well, hitting back-to-back boundaries from Ferguson and even surviving an early LBW scare. However, he was Kohli’s perfect second fiddle, frequently relieving pressure with a boundary at the right moment. Together, they chipped away at Santner with some deft running between the wickets. When the score was down to a tight 26 off 30, Kohli made up ground with a four and a six off a resurgent Boult to put India far ahead, but an unnecessary slog lost him his second century of the competition. But with barely five days to go, Jadeja completed the paperwork to assist India make it five in five.

Mitchell had earlier achieved his sixth century in One-Day Internationals, helping New Zealand to a total of 273. With a 75-point partnership from Ravindra, they helped the team escape a tight spot at 19/2. But a late collapse that saw six wickets go for only thirty runs limited New Zealand to a total that was deemed acceptable.

India made a smart decision by bowling first since their pacers started to get some momentum right away. Jasprit Bumrah remained accurate, and Mohammed Siraj and Shami’s early runs kept New Zealand to 34/2 in the PowerPlay—the third-lowest total in that period in the World Cup. After that, Mitchell and Ravindra joined forces, directing a 159-run collaboration to save New Zealand from their early struggles.

To the surprise of India, Ravindra had many interactions with the Decision Review System (DRS) and was given several chances to extend his innings. His journey started when India chose to examine an LBW appeal despite Bumrah’s legal advice and he had not even scored a run. Though he had only scored six runs against Shami when he was first given out caught behind, Ravindra successfully contested the judgment with the aid of a review. In the same over, a fielder who shared his last name missed an easy catch at backward point, just missing him.

Ravindra was declared out of bounds later in his innings after hitting fifty in fifty balls, however, the call was reversed after the replays revealed that the ball was pitching outside the leg stump.

There was not much turn for the spinners. Jadeja delivered his ten straight without missing a beat, and Mitchell punished Kuldeep Yadav by hitting two straight down the ground in his next two overs. During the middle overs, he was the focal point of New Zealand’s counterattack, reaching his second World Cup half-century in 60 balls and converting it into a run-a-ball century. Mitchell also lost a few runs, as Bumrah dropped another easy catch and KL Rahul spilled a difficult opportunity.

“Shami finally ended the strong alliance, bringing about a dip in the standings when Mitchell was comfortably positioned at the crease. Three missed opportunities later, Ravindra lofted the ball straight to the long-on fielder to give India their first success. A 40-ball spell in which the home team’s bowlers successfully stopped the opposition’s strong hitters from hitting any boundaries came next. When Siraj returned during the final overs, Glenn Phillips finally struck a six to get out of the restraints. But his short-lived contribution ended with a top-edge when he attempted a slog, which Rohit deftly clung onto in the face of three rushing fielders.”

“In the last overs, Shami added three more wickets to his total. He displayed outstanding strategy by hitting two consecutive leg-stumps to Matt Henry in the 48th over, and an off-stump to Mitchell Santner in the next over. Daryl Mitchell, who was caught out on the last delivery of the New Zealand innings, became his fifth wicket, an extremely valuable wicket. To increase the stress, New Zealand suffered their first tournament defeat after a stunning collapse that was capped off by a run-out on the last ball.”

With a surprising 38-run victory against South Africa on Tuesday, the Netherlands added another chapter to the Cricket World Cup‘s Cinderella stories, just days after Afghanistan stunned reigning champions England.

South Africa began their chase of a challenging 246 from their permitted 43 overs calmly, but they quickly lost four wickets to fall from 36/0 to 44/4. Although they offered some resistance, David Miller and Heinrich Klaasen also gave in to the strain put on them by the persistent Dutch bowlers. Only Keshav Maharaj’s late-game appearance kept South Africa from suffering a humiliating loss.

Given that they aren’t known as one of the best cricket teams in the world, the Netherlands’ victory was a remarkable achievement. However, they have displayed amazing determination and tenacity in the competition thus far, and their victory over South Africa is a credit to their talent and hard effort.

Netherlands start the chase with a maiden over, de Kock falls early

In the opening over of South Africa’s chase, Aryan Dutt delivered a maiden, setting the tone for an aggressive bowling effort from the Netherlands. With a couple of boundaries to start the innings, Quinton de Kock appeared to be in terrific form. Temba Bavuma also made a few accurate strokes, including one for six, to help South Africa get off to a good start.

But in the fourth over, Dutt delivered a crucial punch when de Kock gloved a sweep ball and Scott Edwards made a brilliant catch. The Netherlands swiftly enlisted the services of seasoned spinner Roelof van der Merwe since this was the cure-all they needed.

Experienced Dutch spinner strikes twice, quicks get early help

Aryan Dutt, a seasoned left-arm spinner, delivered two devastating blows to increase the pressure on South Africa. As soon as Rassie van der Dussen played a careless reverse sweep that went right to backward point, he forced Rassie van der Dussen to clean up Temba Bavuma with an arm-ball that slipped through. Between those two events, Paul van Meekeren severely injured South Africa by dismissing Aiden Markram.

The pitch wasn’t substantially different from the Netherlands innings, but solid strokeplay was still important. The quicks, on the other hand, definitely received support early on, and the oddity may have slid a little.

Miller and Klaasen look good for South Africa, but Klaasen falls to a harmless short ball

David Miller and Heinrich Klaasen, who looked to be settling well, had South Africa’s best chance of matching the Netherlands’ score. However, it was one of those Dharamsala evenings where everything continued to go the Netherlands’ way.

Klaasen was holed out to fine leg off an innocuous short ball down the leg side, despite Klaasen often being an excellent player of short balls. South Africa had just begun to gain ground in the effort, therefore this was a major setback for them.

Jansen and Miller fall, South Africa’s hopes fade

South Africa’s dreams of matching the total of the Netherlands were dashed when Marco Jansen and David Miller fell in rapid succession. Gerald Coetzee had been supporting Miller well, but soon the pressure came to him.

The outcome was never truly in doubt once Miller was fired. Despite giving up a few runs at the end thanks to some lusty punches from Keshav Maharaj, the Netherlands eventually won easily.

Netherlands recover from early wobble to stun South Africa

When the Netherlands were put into bat, they were in trouble at 50/4 and 82/5 before captain Scott Edwards stepped up with a valiant half-century. Edwards had amazing fortitude and extended his innings, showing a preference for the spin of Keshav Maharaj.

South Africa still retained the advantage over the Netherlands at 140/7 despite several strikes. But after that, the game significantly swung to the Netherlands’ advantage.

Van der Merwe and Edwards join forces to blitz South Africa

In just 36 balls, Roelof van der Merwe and Scott Edwards produced a thrilling 64-run standoff, turning the game around. Van der Merwe was especially bold and risk-taking, surprising the South African bowlers with his confidence. As a result, Edwards was able to concentrate on rotating the strike and raised the stakes for himself in the later innings. The Netherlands scored an incredible 104 runs off the final nine overs thanks to the cameo contributions of Aryan Dutt and others.

It was a remarkable comeback, and the Netherlands advanced into the second half thanks to the momentum. The target may still have been reached, but South Africa’s hitters, who had been in excellent form during

Shubman Gill Nearing Full Recovery, Availability for Saturday’s High-Stakes Pakistan Clash Remains in Question. The 24-year-old opening batsman, who has recently bounced back from Dengue fever, underwent an extensive net session on Thursday morning. Nevertheless, his fitness for the highly anticipated match remains uncertain.

Gill’s Thursday Training Session at the Narendra Modi Stadium: Gill made his way to the Narendra Modi Stadium at approximately 11 AM, where he dedicated over an hour to his training regimen. His session kicked off with warm-up exercises before transitioning to batting practice on the nearby grounds, supervised by the Gujarat Cricket Association (GCA). Gill had the privilege of facing six bowlers, along with the guidance of a dedicated throwdown specialist during his approximately half-hour stint at the batting nets.

Should Gill not secure a spot in the XI on Saturday, it would be a setback for the team. In the recent encounter against Pakistan at the Asia Cup in Colombo just last month, he played a crucial role by fearlessly taking on the formidable Shaheen Shah Afridi in the early stages of the innings, ultimately achieving a comfortable half-century. In that match, India achieved a resounding victory, triumphing by a margin of 228 runs.

In the late hours of Thursday, Zaka Ashraf, the chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), touched down in Ahmedabad. Reports from the Pakistan camp indicated that Ashraf had arrived in the city along with his spouse and was slated to remain in India for the upcoming Saturday’s match. A PCB official confirmed his visit, stating, “He is here as a guest of the BCCI.”

In related developments, the BCCI has officially announced a cultural program scheduled for Saturday afternoon. The board has made arrangements for several accomplished singers to entertain the audience prior to the commencement of the match at 2 p.m. The entertainment is set to span 30 minutes, commencing at 12:30 PM and concluding at 1:00 PM. As customary, the coin toss will take place at 1:30 PM.

Skipper Rohit Sharma‘s astounding performance, scoring a record-breaking 131 runs, led India to a resounding victory over Afghanistan by 8 wickets during their 2023 World Cup encounter in Delhi on Wednesday, October 11th. Rohit Sharma displayed his dominance from the very start of the match, taking control during the PowerPlay and effortlessly chasing down Afghanistan’s score of 272/8. This triumph propelled India to the second position in the points table, with a comfortable 15 overs to spare.

The ideal cricket conditions, characterized by short boundaries, a swift outfield, a flat wicket, a manageable target, and the presence of dew, all converged to create the perfect stage for Rohit Sharma. He not only unleashed a blistering assault on Afghanistan’s bowling attack but also etched his name into the annals of cricket history by breaking multiple records. During his scintillating 84-ball innings, Rohit Sharma claimed the title of the highest six-hitter in international cricket, surpassing Chris Gayle’s previous record of 553. Additionally, he achieved the milestone of India’s fastest World Cup century in just 63 deliveries and eclipsed Sachin Tendulkar’s record for the most centuries in global cricket events, securing his sixth century.

The beginning of India’s chase wasn’t particularly brisk, with only 13 runs on the board after the first three overs. However, Rohit Sharma then took it upon himself to launch a one-man assault on the opposition. Fazalhaq Farooqi bore the brunt of his aggression, conceding 31 runs, which included four boundaries and two sixes, in just 10 balls, leading to his immediate removal from the bowling attack. Subsequently, Naveen-ul-Haq and Azmatullah Omarzai suffered a similar fate, as they were each hit for a six and a four. Meanwhile, it took Ishan Kishan nine deliveries to open his World Cup account, while Captain Rohit Sharma shouldered the bulk of the scoring responsibilities throughout his innings. During the Powerplay, India amassed 94 runs, with Rohit contributing a significant 76 of those on his own.

Amid all the batting fireworks, Afghanistan curiously kept Rashid Khan on the sidelines until the 15th over, despite his impressive track record against Rohit Sharma in other white-ball formats, having dismissed him four times. By the time Rashid was introduced, the Indian captain had already raced to a stunning 88 runs off 52 balls, and India’s required run rate had dropped to a very comfortable 4.08. However, Rashid lived up to his reputation, preventing Ishan Kishan from reaching a half-century by just three runs. He eventually outfoxed Rohit with a well-executed googly, but not before Rohit also put him in the firing line. Such was the relentlessness of Rohit’s assault that he, in fact, lofted one with impeccable timing over midwicket for a maximum.

When Rohit Sharma departed, India had already surpassed the 200-run mark in the 25th over. Virat Kohli, remaining unbeaten with 55, and Shreyas Iyer, contributing 25, capitalized on this strong foundation, forging an unbroken 72-run partnership that guided India to victory without any further setbacks. Despite a night filled with Rohit’s relentless sixes, it was Iyer’s colossal 101-meter hit off Mujeeb – the largest of the tournament thus far – that captured the spotlight. Shortly after, Kohli sealed the deal with consecutive half-centuries, marking the beginning of his World Cup campaign in style.

Earlier in the day, Afghanistan found themselves in a precarious position at 63/3, but a resilient 121-run partnership between Hashmatullah Shahidi (80) and Omarzai (62) helped them recover. However, Jasprit Bumrah’s exceptional performance resulted in his best World Cup figures of 4-39, restricting Afghanistan to a total of 272/8 after they chose to bat. While the two batsmen who scored half-centuries successfully held off the Indian bowling attack for most of the middle overs, Bumrah made a crucial impact in the late stages of the innings, preventing them from making a substantial recovery.

During his four-over spell in the powerplay, Jasprit Bumrah effectively thwarted a potentially dangerous partnership, registering an impressive 19 dot balls. He claimed the wicket of Ibrahim Zadran, who had initially survived a close LBW review, thanks to some fluid drives, but was eventually dismissed after edging behind. Rahmanullah Gurbaz reached the team’s fifty in the 11th over but soon fell to a well-directed bouncer from Hardik Pandya, disrupting yet another budding partnership. In a matter of two deliveries, Shardul Thakur trapped Rahmat Shah leg-before-wicket, pushing Afghanistan to a precarious 63/3 just after the drinks break.

The partnership between the captain and the promoted Omarzai played a pivotal role in Afghanistan’s recovery during the fourth-wicket stand. They did take their time to settle in before picking up the pace. Notably, Hashmatullah Shahidi took a well-calculated risk by employing a slog-sweep against Ravindra Jadeja, recognizing that India had one fielder less within the inner ring. Before this, Afghanistan had endured 11 consecutive overs without a boundary. It was Omarzai who finally broke the shackles in the 25th over, taking on Kuldeep Yadav with two lofted shots down the ground in just three balls. Over the next 10 overs, Afghanistan significantly increased their run rate, accumulating 89 runs. This dynamic duo won the battle during the middle overs, both reaching their respective half-centuries, contributing to Afghanistan’s second-best partnership in World Cup history.

Hashmatullah Shahidi efficiently dispatched the two short deliveries from Hardik Pandya to reach his half-century, but the Indian vice-captain bounced back strongly in his next over, dismantling Omarzai’s stumps and ending the resilient partnership. Following this breakthrough, Afghanistan struggled to regain its momentum, especially with Kuldeep Yadav returning to the attack and applying the brakes. After creating several difficulties for the Afghanistan captain, the spinner ultimately trapped him leg-before-wicket for 80 runs, concluding a commendable spell of 10 overs, 40 runs, and one wicket.

Jasprit Bumrah’s return during the death overs intensified Afghanistan’s woes. After reaching 184 for 3 in the 35th over, Afghanistan stumbled to 235/7 as India’s premier pacer dismissed both of Afghanistan’s power hitters – Najibullah Zadran and Mohammad Nabi – in the same over. While Mujeeb ur Rahman and Rashid Khan briefly posed a threat, Bumrah put an end to Rashid’s entertaining cameo when he was 16, limiting Afghanistan to a modest total of 272/8.

Brief scores

Afghanistan 272/8 in 50 overs (Hashmatullah Shahidi 80, Azmatullah Omarzai 62; Jasprit Bumrah 4-39, Hardik Pandya 2-43)

India 273/2 in 35 overs (Rohit Sharma 131, Virat Kohli 55*; Rashid Khan 2-57)

The Netherlands’ closest chance of matching New Zealand came in the 47th over of the latter’s innings, with the score at 272-6 and Tom Latham and Mitchell Santner at the crease. It seemed like the Netherlands might be able to restrict their opponents to under 300 for the second time in a row in Hyderabad’s batting-friendly conditions.

Mitchell Santner took charge with the bat in the late overs of New Zealand’s innings, scoring a quickfire 17-ball 32 to help his team post a formidable 322 for 7.

Santner’s innings came after Tom Latham had clubbed Paul van Meekeren for a boundary and a six in the previous over. Santner then ended the over with a cut for four past backward square.

Santner continued to attack in the final over, smoking a couple of sixes off Bas de Leede to take New Zealand to 322 for 7. Santner’s innings was vital for New Zealand, as it helped them to mount a big total and wrestle the momentum back from the Netherlands.

Mitchell Santner has been expected to play this kind of role with the bat: making a small impact that makes a significant difference. Even though he comes into the team as a bowling all-rounder, he is more likely to be a hero with the bat, finishing off a close game.

This was evident in the previous game against England, where he returned figures of 2-37 from his 10 overs, despite the ultra-aggressive batting of the English team. His performance was overshadowed by the unbeaten 273-run stand between Rachin Ravindra and Devon Conway, but it was still a valuable contribution.

Santner is often overshadowed by the star pacers, but he plays an important role in the team’s bowling attack. He is a container, while the pacers are the aggressors. In 95 ODIs before the Hyderabad game, he had picked up only 93 wickets. However, his economy rate is excellent, and he is often used to bowl in the middle overs to tighten things up.

Mitchell Santner, the perennial side actor, was the star of the show on Monday, both with the bat and the ball. He backed up his quickfire cameo with a devastating spell of bowling, ripping through the Netherlands’ middle order to claim the first-ever international five-for at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium.

Even though the pitch offered turn, its slow and even pace made it easy for the batters to counter Colin Ackermann’s bowling. Ackermann himself admitted that the Netherlands batters played him well, saying, “He mixes his pace pretty well; he was a massive threat. I think we played him pretty well up to a point and then we gave him a couple of soft wickets towards the back end.

Although Colin Ackermann might argue that some of the Netherlands’ shot selections were poor, Santner deserves credit for his clever bowling. In the 35th over, with the required run rate increasing, Netherlands captain Scott Edwards decided to attack Santner, hitting him for a boundary and six followed by a two with a powerful shot. Sensing Edwards’ intent to attack, Santner slowed down the pace and bowled a flighted delivery to tempt him. Edwards fell for the bait, going too early for the ball and miscuing it, top-edging it to the bowler who caught it.

It was great to get the rewards,” said Santner, who took his second ODI five-wicket  haul in New Zealand’s 99-run win. “I don’t think I bowled as well as I did in Ahmedabad. I missed a few more balls, but I kept trying to be aggressive and take wickets. I think that’s the only way to slow down the batters in the middle overs of an ODI World Cup  innings, and I thought we did that very well as a bowling unit.

With Ish Sodhi on the bench for the first two games, both of which New Zealand won convincingly, Santner is the only frontline spinner in the XI, with support from part-timers Rachin Ravindra and Glenn Phillips. Sodhi may come into his own on the more spin-friendly pitches in Chennai, but for now, the onus is on Santner to keep control.

Santner, who has typically played a containing role in all formats, is excited to be an aggressor in the spin-friendly conditions of India. Having played most of his cricket in New Zealand, where there is not much assistance for spinners, Santner has had to make adjustments to his bowling style.

It’s great to come here and bowl on spinning wickets, which are rare in New Zealand,” Santner said. “My role is slightly different in India. I need to be more aggressive, keep my slips in for longer, and operate with a mid-on up most of the time, with only three fielders back. I want to make the batters play big shots, and if the ball is spinning, I’ll be even more aggressive.

Our role will vary depending on the conditions. On flat pitches, we may need to play a more defensive role and try to get wickets through pressure. But on pitches like tonight, where there is some spin, we can be more aggressive and bowl with a slip in. Rachin also bowled very well tonight, with the same mentality of always trying to get wickets.

Santner is a key player for New Zealand in all formats, but he rarely has a starring role. On Monday, he was the most expensive New Zealand bowler, but he also took four wickets, which was rare but welcome.

On Sunday, October 8th, India defeated Australia in the World Cup 2023 in Chennai with a brilliant effort to get their World Cup campaign off to a winning start. On an extremely slow wicket, the spin combination of Ravindra Jadeja, Kuldeep Yadav, and R Ashwin impressed one another, holding Australia to a score of 199. KL Rahul and Virat Kohli then displayed well all over the chase, clinching India’s victory.

The hunt for India did not go without difficulty by any means. For a side that had experienced an unlucky 5/3 start in their previous World Cup match back in 2019, it was a similar situation at Chepauk. Ishan Kishan, standing in for Shubman Gill, lost a great chance when he was caught at slip in the opening over after getting attacked by a wide ball. Josh Hazlewood caused chaos by sending both Rohit Sharma and Shreyas Iyer back to the pavilion for ducks in the second over of the chase, shocking the fans and the locker room.

If Australia had taken advantage of a chance offered by Kohli’s failed pull shot a few overs later, India may have been in a tighter situation. Mitchell Marsh missed the opportunity, however, and Kohli decided to take a more sensible approach. India had only scored 27 runs as the powerplay ended, but they gradually started to impose themselves and scored 53 more runs in the next 10 overs. While India’s spinners had a successful day, Adam Zampa and Glenn Maxwell were struggling to quite match their degree of impact.

When Kohli despatched Cameron Green for two consecutive boundaries, he was able to remove him from the bowling attack. While Zampa faced Rahul in his first over, Rahul showed a good attitude and collected three boundaries. After that initial push, the pair decided to rotate their strikes slowly, continuously scoring at a pace of about four runs per over, which was in line with the required run rate.

They started to release the shots more freely as the target got closer. As a result, Kohli’s brave innings was cut short at 85, giving Hazlewood his third wicket. Rahul, meanwhile, came perilously close to a century, missing the mark by only four runs.

Early in the day, Australia came under intense pressure from India’s trio of spin spinners in the middle overs, causing a spectacular collapse that finally resulted in Australia being bowled out for just 199 runs. Early on, as Marsh left for a duck, he caused one to lag behind and slide. After that early setback, though, David Warner and Steve Smith adopted a careful strategy to control the innings on a difficult wicket.

When facing deliveries that were either too full or too short, Smith acted strongly, as seen in his battle with Hardik Pandya. Ashwin’s early introduction in the attack by India did not have the intended effect either.

Australia reached an impressive 71/1 after the opening 15 overs, and both batsmen looked confident. The key breakthrough given by Kuldeep Yadav, though, caused Warner to return one to him. This was the turning point in the game. After that, Ravindra Jadeja took control and seriously hurt the previous world champions.

Jadeja used his left-arm spin to produce a ball that turned quickly and smacked into the off stump, dismissing Smith, an important player. He continued by removing Marnus Labuschagne and Alex Carey in the same over, ruining Australia’s chances.

The wickets kept falling, and even Australia’s last batting pair, Maxwell and Green, was unable to mount a comeback. Kuldeep caused Maxwell’s leg stump to be damaged, and Green gave Ashwin his first wicket. Australia’s score dropped from 111/2 to a perilous 140/7 as a result of this powerful breakdown.

Without the important contributions made in the latter stages by Pat Cummins and Mitchell Starc, Australia’s situation may have been far more serious. Their attempts ultimately did little more than delay the inevitable result, as India easily won with 52 balls remaining.

Brief scores; Australia 199 all out in 49.3 overs (Smith 46, Warner 41; Jadeja 3/28)

India 201/4 in 41.2 overs (Rahul 96*, Kohli 85; Hazlewood 3/38)

Before the World Cup 2023 began, the cricketing world was buzzing with anticipation for England’s fearless brand of cricket. But in Thursday’s opener, Devon Conway and Rachin Ravindra delivered a masterclass in batting to crush England. The combined batting skills of the two Kiwis were so commanding that New Zealand, previously considered underdogs, suddenly found themselves among the favorites for a spot in the championship final four.

Conway and Ravindra went on the attack from the start, putting on a remarkable 273-run partnership in just 211 balls, at a strike rate of over 130, which is high even for T20 cricket. They deftly capitalized on the conditions, which became more favorable under the lights at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.

England captain Jos Buttler, blaming his team’s loss on losing the toss, revealed that England had targeted a total of 330 runs. But such was the imperious aggression of Devon Conway and Rachin Ravindra on that unforgettable opening night that New Zealand might have chased down even 400 runs. They seamlessly achieved the 283-run target with nearly 14 overs and nine wickets to spare. In the process, both batsmen rode into the history books with centuries on their World Cup debut, registering the second-highest partnership for New Zealand in ODIs for any wicket.

Despite being left-handed batters from different backgrounds, Conway and Ravindra share a unique bond as outsiders who have adopted New Zealand as their home. Conway, born in South Africa, chose to represent New Zealand due to unfair selection policies in his home country. Ravindra, born in New Zealand to a family of Indian immigrants, proudly embraces his Kiwi identity.

We’re both Kiwis now,” said Rachin Ravindra, who became the youngest ODI centurion for New Zealand at 23 years and 321 days. “I was born in New Zealand to Indian parents, but I completely see myself as a Kiwi. I think Devon Conway would say the same. He’s adopted New Zealand as his home for the last five or six years, and he’s completely a Kiwi. Being able to win a game for your nation is always special.

While I wouldn’t say we’re outsiders, we are very grateful to call New Zealand home. We certainly feel like Kiwis, and we’re honored to be part of this group and this great culture. I’m very glad to be representing New Zealand and the Black Caps,” said Conway (32), complimenting his younger teammate’s sentiments. Both are close friends from Wellington, the capital of New Zealand.

Ravindra’s innings began cautiously, but he quickly transitioned into an aggressive stance, smacking two boundaries off Chris Woakes in his second over. His true statement of intent came in the seventh over, when he executed a perfectly timed pull shot for a massive six off Mark Wood, England’s quickest bowler. It was a shot that radiated absolute confidence, control, and poise, and it left the English camp in disbelief. As if that initial shock wasn’t enough, he swiftly followed it with an off-drive that zoomed to the boundary, leaving the defending champions gasping for air.

Ravindra continued to unleash a barrage of sixes, capitalizing on a short delivery from Moeen Ali by sending it soaring over the boundary. In the next over, he attempted to launch the ball to the moon, marking his half-century in breathtaking style, accomplished in just 36 balls. This confident and controlled aggressive batting outshone his senior partner and demonstrated his sheer brilliance. Subsequently, he shifted into a more responsible mode, taking more deliveries to reach his century, achieved off 82 balls, letting Conway take the lead in the race to the three-figure mark.

The significance of the century becomes evident when considering that Ravindra may not have participated in the match had the regular captain, Kane Williamson, been in good health. “I’m uncertain about what would have occurred if Williamson had been available,” Ravindra remarked regarding the prospect of taking a break in Williamson’s absence. “Fortunately, he was unfit, and I had the chance to step in. However, I believe the future will reveal more. Kane is undeniably a crucial part of our team, and I’m certain everyone is eagerly awaiting his return,” added the young player, who was honored with the Player of the Match award.

Conway, a Chennai Super Kings opener in the IPL, used his familiarity with Indian conditions to his advantage. Having played four games at the venue before the match, he batted similarly to how Shubman Gill performs for the Gujarat Titans at the Stadium. Conway kick-started the chase with a blazing 10 runs in the very first over, bowled by Woakes, setting the tone for what was to come. The early dismissal of Young did not deter him; he continued to display remarkable poise, unwavering self-belief, and exceptional control.

The IPL experience was immensely beneficial,” exclaimed a joyful Conway, the highest run-scorer of the game, as he shared his thoughts. “This marks my fourth match at this stadium, and I’m well-acquainted with the playing surface and the prevailing conditions. However, what truly brings me joy is the performance of our younger partner. I’m incredibly proud of him, knowing the dedication and hard work he puts in. What he accomplished today was nothing short of extraordinary. He seized the opportunity presented to him and showcased his immense talent.”

The New Zealand victory undoubtedly sent a strong message to the other nine teams in the competition. As finalists in the previous two editions, New Zealand may well be aiming for third-time luck, and their aspirations received a significant boost following the explosive batting display on a night when Ravindra, with only 12 ODIs under his belt, made his grand entrance onto the big stage, while Conway continued to impress with his consistent contributions.

Inside the Preparations of the 10 Captains for the World Cup | CWC23

Given the deep-seated passion for cricket in the country, India’s captain, Rohit Sharma, voiced solid faith in the possibility of the forthcoming event being a huge success. The World Cup being won has always been enjoyed growing up fantasy, he added.

“Every leader among us desires to accomplish something fundamentally remarkable for their country, as I’ve said from the beginning. I have had a deep-seated desire to compete in the 50-Over World Cup since I was a little boy. All of my other captains are likely to share this opinion, Rohit said.

One thing I can guarantee—and I’m sure everyone knows this—is the people’s unbridled passion for this event in India. Our stadiums will be packed to capacity because Indians have a deep affinity for both the game and their favorite club. You may be sure that this competition will be a great view.

Australia Dominates Pakistan in World Cup Warm-Up Clash | CWC23

The five-time Cricket World Cup champion and Australia captain Pat Cummins was looking forward to the highly anticipated match between India and Pakistan on October 14 in Ahmedabad.

It’s unusual to witness international events when it seems like half the globe is tuned in to watch, he said.

Every time India plays Pakistan in a World Cup, it’s one of those exceptional times when it seems like the whole cricketing world is holding its breath.

You can’t help but want to watch the game and take in all the commentary and the amazing enthusiasm that surrounds it, even if you aren’t actively participating in the contest. This game being played in this stadium, which has a seating capacity of more than 100,000, would be extremely extraordinary, said Cummins.

Afghanistan Achieves an Impressive Victory Over Sri Lanka with Ease

Babar Azam, the captain of Pakistan, expressed his gratitude to their kind hosts for their wonderful hospitality and his wish that cricket fans all over the world would enjoy the high caliber of play that was anticipated in the competition.

“The excellent hospitality we’ve experienced here has genuinely touched us. Our expectations were surpassed. It has been a great experience to see how people have welcomed us. It didn’t seem like we were in India throughout our week in Hyderabad; rather, it felt like home, according to Babar.

We’ve had a great time and have enjoyed our stay here. It’s excellent, and I think it gives everyone a great chance to give their all and enjoy the event.

England’s skipper Jos Buttler reaffirmed his team’s dedication to playing aggressive cricket, which had led to them becoming the reigning champions. them to victory in their first World Cup title on home soil in 2019.

Since 2015, when the team has mostly been working together for a long time, the shift you indicated has started. As you correctly noted, this strategy is used throughout the whole game. Young cricketing talent in England adopts a certain style and is resolute in their devotion to preserving it. We think that this approach gives us the best chance of success,” Buttler added.

There will undoubtedly be times when we make errors, but we’ve accepted that fact. We’re committed to continuing to push the envelope in this endeavor. Our goal is to constantly be at the fore of that evolution because other teams will test us and increase the bar, he added.

Afghanistan’s third World Cup debut is being led by Hashmatullah Shahidi, who had great expectations for the support of the public and the ideal playing circumstances.

“As I’ve already said, we anticipate a sizable turnout and enthusiastic fan support. We anticipate supporters supporting us by filling the stadium. Both our bowling and batting departments will profit from our top-notch spinners and the favorable playing circumstances, he said.

“I am certain that our batting will leave a lasting impression at this World Cup. We can play cricket at a high level and do really well, Shahidi asserted with assurance.

Got Him! Standout Performers Among Bowlers in Warm-Up Matches

The Bangladeshi team’s skipper, Shakib Al Hasan, showed optimism in the future of his squad and credited their success in the ICC Men’s ODI Cricket World Cup Super League.

We’ve prepared thoroughly, and in the four years since the 2019 World Cup, we’ve risen to become one of the top three or four teams in the qualifier’s point standings. We’ve done a great job as a group, and now it’s time for us to really shine. In comparison to our prior initiatives, our nation has higher expectations and our squad is prepared, Shakib said.

Spectacular Display by Babar as He Strikes a Rapid 90 Against Australia

Scott Edwards, the captain of the Netherlands, talked about the exciting matchup that his side, notorious for throwing surprises, will have against Pakistan in Hyderabad.

Every game in this competition has its own unique obstacles. Although Pakistan is unquestionably a powerful squad, we are looking forward to the match. As we begin the tournament in Hyderabad against Pakistan, our excitement is evident, according to Edwards.

Temba Bavuma, the captain of South Africa, recognized that numerous teams had the significant benefit of being familiar with the conditions in India.

This, in my opinion, is a component that all teams may use. Many of our players have participated in competitions in India and found success there. Therefore, I wouldn’t necessarily classify it as a particular benefit for us. We may improve our team’s strategy and plans by drawing on the expertise and experience of those players. It’s a resource that many teams share, not just one that we have,” Bavuma said.

Dasun Shanaka, captain of Sri Lanka, was looking forward to the chance to create a lasting impression in the World Cup despite managing a team that was hampered by injuries.

“We are living in interesting times. Injuries have caused us a lot of problems recently, but we also have some outstanding records. Collectively, we are looking forward to the World Cup. Every squad member is committed to demonstrating that we are in this competition to put up a fantastic performance, according to Shanaka.

Every side entered the event with a clean slate, according to Kane Williamson, who led his squad to the World Cup 2023  finals in each of the previous two tournaments. The Black Caps will continue to adhere to their effective playing approach, he stressed.

“Every new occurrence, as you correctly noted, puts everyone on an equal basis and starts over. Teams change, opponents change, and conditions alter from tournament to tournament.

 Williamson remarked.

For us, maintaining the cricketing approach that constantly gives us the best chance to perform at the very top of our game is still the major priority. While we have had many good experiences and faced many difficulties in previous tournaments, we are really excited about the special challenges that await us in this one. The outstanding atmosphere it would generate in India in contrast to previous tournaments is what makes this unique. Many people in this country have a unique affection for sports, so the amount of support we anticipate will undoubtedly be outstanding. We thus greatly anticipate taking part in this event.
