The biggest football event on the planet, the 2022 FIFA World Cup is set to kick off on November 21, 2022 in Qatar. This is the first time that the FIFA World Cup has been held in the Middle East and the second time that an Asian country has hosted it. The country attracts tourists from all over the world for what promises to be the most expensive World Cup in history.

Qatar is the smallest country by area to host the FIFA World Cup. The next smallest is Switzerland, which hosted the 1954 FIFA World Cup. Qatar became the second country to host the major event without qualifying in previous editions.

How much does Qatar spend on the 2022 FIFA World Cup?

Qatar is a country the size of Yorkshire with 2.8 million inhabitants. But due to the size of the country it is the richest in the worldcup in per capita terms. So far, the country has spent about $200 billion.

They built a new city, Lusail, to host the World Cup final. The country is spending $500 million a week on construction, infrastructure, hospitals, hotels, airports and several new stadiums.

In 2017, the country’s finance minister, Ali Sharif al-Emadi, said that Qatar has already started preparing for the World Cup for a long time. The main objective of the country is to finish the work in early 2022.

The country is ready to receive an impressive number of fans (about 1.2-1.5 million). Fearing a housing deficit, the country has already spent $40 million on hotels.
