India got the chance to play against Australia in the Surrey Gavaskar Trophy

A technical glitch on their website saw the Indian team climb to the top of the ICC Test Team Rankings ahead of the four Test series against Australia at home. The ICC test ranking changes only at the end of each series, with the exception of Australia or India. The streak ended on 8 January 2023 when Australia beat South Africa 2–0 in a three-game home streak.

Team Pat Cummins tops the table with 126 points, followed by India with 115 points.

However, due to a technical error on the ICC website, India edged out Australia in the test.

Fans took pictures and tweeted the rankings, but the chaos lasted for two hours as Australia reclaimed the top spot.

According to a screenshot shared by fans, India retained top spot but lost to Australia by 15 runs to return to top spot.

Furthermore, South Africa rose from fourth to fifth and the West Indies to eighth.

However, India has a chance to play against Australia in the Surrey Gavaskar Trophy from 9th February.

The hosts announced their squads for the first two games, while the visitors announced their 18-man squad.
