Armand Lorient scored twice and Nikola Zalewski scored once for Sassuolo. But Roma defender Marsh Cumbula was sent off late in the first half and Domenico Berardi converted the resulting penalty.

Paulo Dybala brought Roma back into the game with 10 men at the start of the second half, but Andrea Pinamonti equalized before Georginldum scored a late goal.

Roma will match AC Milan when they host Salernitana on Monday and look to exploit their opponents’ offences.

Third-placed Lazio are two points behind Roma and Milan after Sunday’s game at Bologna, while Inter have moved further ahead after Friday’s game at Spezia.

Roma’s next match in Serie A is against Lazio and Mourinho will not be on the bench after two breaks.

The team fought back to equalize with Inter Milan and took the lead less than two minutes later when Wijnaldum was sent off but fired straight at Sassuolo goalkeeper Andrea Consigli.

Sassuolo took the lead in the 13th minute as Roma lost possession on the counter-attack. David Fratsi’s cross was saved by Chris Smalling, then Pinamonti’s shot was saved by goalkeeper Rui Patrizio, but Loriente was offside.

Lorient and Sassuolo scored twice in the space of five minutes, but Roma pulled a goal back with a brace in the 26th minute.

Things went from bad to worse for Roma in the first half, when Kambula received a series of red cards for a foul on Berardi, then scored.

Dybala extended Roma’s lead and had an immediate effect as he headed into the top corner five minutes later.

Sassuolo immediately had two, but Berardi’s shot hit the post. They did so in 1975 when Laurent Pinamonti changed the foundation of the company.

 SCARE FOR JUVE

Juventus survived the shock and missed a penalty, but despite taking more points, beat Sampdoria 4–2 to clinch the European places.

The Bianconeri, who dropped 15 points at the start of the season, are four behind sixth-placed Atalanta.

Bremner and Adrien Rabiot scored in the 26th minute to give Juventus a comfortable win.

But Samp is under 90 seconds behind Tommaso Augello and Filip Juricic, 32 seconds behind.

Rabiot doubled the lead in the 64th minute and Dusan Vlahovic scored four minutes later – after Augello had replaced Juan Cuadrado – but from the left.

Young goalkeeper Martin Turk also deflected Cuadrado’s shot into the woods to put his side up.

Turk Vlahovic dominated briefly, but Mattias Sole scored his first goal.

Hellas Verona would like to thank VAR for the 1-1 draw against Monza in emergency situations.

In the second half, Stefano Sensi broke Simone Vardi’s lead for the visitors.
