Rayudu slammed the former selection committee for ignoring him for the 2019 World Cup

Ambati Rayudu, the former Indian batsman, recently bid farewell to the Indian Premier League (IPL), the World’s wealthiest T20 tournament, during the 2023 season. Playing for the Chennai Super Kings (CSK), Rayudu played a crucial role in the final match of IPL 2023, where he contributed a significant cameo for MS Dhoni and his team. In that match against Hardik Pandya’s team, Rayudu scored 19 runs off just 8 balls. Prior to the summit clash, Rayudu had already confirmed that it would mark the end of his IPL career.

Interestingly, Rayudu made a firm commitment not to reconsider his retirement decision. During the previous season of the IPL, the former CSK player had announced his retirement via a tweet. However, the tweet went viral and attracted attention from CSK’s management, leading Rayudu to delete it. This was not the first time Rayudu had announced his retirement, as he had previously retired in 2019 after being overlooked by the Indian selectors for the 2019 World Cup.

During an interview with TV9 Telugu, the former Indian cricketer disclosed that he had encountered problems with certain members of the selection committee during the initial stages of his career. Rayudu stated, “I had some disagreements with a member of the selection committee, which may have contributed to my exclusion from the 2019 World Cup squad.”

The recently retired Indian batsman also claimed that BCCI officials had informed him in 2018 to be prepared for the 2019 World Cup. Rayudu made his debut for Team India against Zimbabwe at Harare Sports Club in 2013. He played his final international match against Australia at JSCA International Stadium Complex in 2019. With 55 One Day Internationals (ODIs) and 6 T20Is under his belt, the 37-year-old had a notable international career representing Team India.

Joining forces with Rohit Sharma, the former Chennai Super Kings (CSK) star became one of the most successful players in IPL history. Both Rohit and Rayudu have achieved the remarkable feat of winning six titles each in their respective IPL careers. Expressing his feelings about his time at CSK, Rayudu stated, “When I joined CSK, it felt like coming back home. The most enjoyable phase of my career was with CSK.” Throughout his IPL journey, Rayudu amassed 4,348 runs in 2013 IPL games.
