4 Semi-Finalists to Battle for Final 2 Spots in Women’s Emerging Teams Asia Cup 2023.

In the ACC Women’s Emerging Teams Asia Cup 2023, India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, and Bangladesh have established themselves as strong semi-finalists, ready to compete for a prestigious spot in the finals. Unfortunately, the highly anticipated India-Pakistan match had to be called off due to rain. As a result, both teams were awarded a point each, ensuring their progression to the semi-finals. Sri Lanka and Bangladesh, who displayed outstanding performances throughout the tournament, also secured their places in the semi-finals.

India, leading the table with a superior run rate compared to their arch-rivals Pakistan, showcased their dominance in their first encounter against Hong Kong. Choosing to bowl first, the Indian team delivered an exceptional performance, restricting Hong Kong to a mere 34 runs in 14 overs. Shreyanka Patil emerged as the standout player of the match, taking a remarkable 5-wicket haul while conceding only 2 runs in 3 overs. Parshavi and Mannat Kashyap also made significant contributions, each securing 2 wickets. India efficiently chased down the target in just 5.2 overs, with Uma Chetry and Gongadi Trisha remaining unbeaten on 16 and 19 runs respectively.

On the flip side, Sri Lanka commenced their campaign with a victory against UAE. Choosing to bowl first, the Sri Lankan bowlers exhibited a splendid performance, dismissing UAE for a meager total of 95 runs in 19.3 overs. Madushika Meththananda shone with her exceptional bowling skills, claiming 4 wickets in a mere 3.3 overs. Additionally, Malsha Shehani and Nimasha Meepage contributed significantly by securing 2 wickets each. Their combined efforts proved instrumental in limiting UAE’s scoring opportunities. Sri Lanka displayed 

confidence as they successfully chased down the target in 19.5 overs, with Vishmi Gunaratne leading the charge with 21 runs.

Bangladesh, another formidable team, demonstrated their dominance in their opening match against Malaysia. Opting to bat first, Bangladesh posted an impressive total of 148/6 in their allotted 20 overs. Murshida Khatun played a scintillating inning, smashing 57 runs off just 44 balls to showcase her exceptional skills. Building on their team’s strong performance, the Bangladeshi bowlers restricted Malaysia to a mere 51/8 in their 20 overs.

The stage is now set for the thrilling semi-finals, scheduled to take place on Monday, June 19, with a reserve day scheduled for June 20 in case of adverse weather conditions.
