A fresh captain is on the horizon for Team India in their forthcoming tour to the United Kingdom (UK), with renowned fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah slated to take the helm of the second-string Indian squad against the Irish hosts. The imminent T20I series comprising three matches against Ireland will signify the comeback of the experienced pacemaker Bumrah to the international cricket scene. After contending with a persistent back injury, Bumrah underwent a recovery period that spanned nearly 11 months, keeping him away from competitive action.

Indian opening batsman Ruturaj Gaikwad has been designated as the vice-captain to the fully-recovered Jasprit Bumrah for the upcoming series against Ireland. Bumrah, who last participated in competitive cricket during India’s home T20I series against Australia in September of the previous year, has been absent from notable events such as the T20 World Cup and Asia Cup in the past year. Apart from the return of the pace maestro Bumrah, fast bowler Prasidh Krishna is also set to make his comeback after a prolonged period of injury-induced absence. Prasidh had been sidelined due to a lumbar stress fracture sustained during India’s tour of Zimbabwe in August of the preceding year.

The second-string Indian contingent includes notable players such as Jitesh Sharma, Rinku Singh, and Shivam Dube. Furthermore, Indian opener Yashasvi Jaiswal, along with Mukesh Kumar, Arshdeep Singh, Tilak Varma, Avesh Khan, and Sanju Samson, have maintained their positions in the Indian T20I roster following the West Indies series. Guided by the captaincy of Jasprit Bumrah, the Indian secondary team is determined to make a strong resurgence subsequent to their 3-2 defeat against the West Indies in the Caribbean.

In the absence of Yuzvendra Chahal, Ravindra Jadeja, and Kuldeep Yadav, the spin department for India will be led by Ravi Bishnoi, Shahbaz Ahmed, and Washington Sundar in the matches against Ireland. On Tuesday, Team India, under the leadership of Bumrah, embarked on their journey to Ireland for the imminent three-match T20I series set to take place in Dublin.

Notably, the Indian contingent will not be accompanied by head coach Rahul Dravid or National Cricket Academy (NCA) chief VVS Laxman for the Ireland series. Instead, coaches Sitanshu Kotak and Sairaj Bahutule will form part of the Indian coaching staff for the team’s final white-ball series before the Asia Cup 2023.

For viewers interested in catching the action, all three T20Is of the Ireland series can be streamed live in India on JioCinema. Each of the matches is scheduled to commence at 7:30 IST.
