The truth is…’: Thibaut Courtois, Real Madrid goalkeeper, harshly criticizes Karim Benzema’s 2022 Ballon d’Or award

Thibaut Courtois expressed his shock at Karim Benzema winning the 2022 Ballon d’Or award and also attacked his ranking.

With Karim Benzema winning the 2022 Ballon d’Or award this year, it’s clear that the atmosphere at Real Madrid must be great. But it seems that Thibaut is not Courtois! The goalkeeper expressed his disappointment at finishing seventh in the Ballon d’Or standings despite winning La Liga and the Champions League.

“The truth is, I think it’s impossible. After years I had as a goalkeeper, you win the Champions League, you win the League, you play the Champions League final and your team wins, thanks for the defense, and you only end up seventh”, said the Belgian goalkeeper.

Benzema, who is also the captain of Real Madrid, scored 44 goals in 46 matches, including 15 goals in the Champions League. Some of the 34-year-old’s main exploits include a 17-minute second-half hat-trick against PSG in the Champions League round of 16, then another away against Chelsea in the quarter-final first leg. I scored three times in both legs of the semi-final against Manchester City.

After receiving the award, he said, “It makes me very proud, whatever work I did, I never gave up.”

“I had two role models in my life, Zidane and Ronaldo. I always had this dream in mind that anything is possible. There was a difficult period when I was not in the French national team, but I worked hard and I never gave up, my head lay down and enjoyed playing football.”

“I am very proud of my journey here, it was not easy, it was difficult for me and my family. Coming here today, for the first time for me. I am very happy, thanks to my teammates, Real Com Madrid and the national team” , he added.
